Former light weight UFC champion Evan Tanner was found dead yesterday (September 8th) in a California desert. Friends say Tanner was taking some time off to free his spirit and get back in touch with himself. His trip was supposed to consist of him going off to a camp ground on his motorcycle and then hiking into the wilderness for some quality time with himself.

Tanner new the risk’s of his journey and was talking about taking his trips week before on one of his blogs and is quoted as saying

I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life

While lost in the California desert he sent some text messages to friends saying that he was out of water and over heating rapidly, unfortunately no one could reach him in time to save him.

Tanner started fighting in MMA back in 1997 and had a professional record of 32-8 with quality wins over contenders like Heath Hearing and Elvis Sinosic.

Evan Tanner was always known as a man who loved his life and did what he loved most including touring the world and of course competing in the highest level of mixed martial arts. He was a positive role model to a lot of fighters and fans all over the world and he will be missed.

Men’s Garage salutes one of the most loved UFC fighters of all time and will forever miss Evan Tanner, RIP
