Virgin Mobile Canada lights up HSPA+ network, iPhone 3GS, Bold 9700 in tow
January 30, 2010 – 10:00 am | No Comment
Well, it’s a bit earlier than the invitation to the big launch event suggested, but it looks like Virgin Mobile Canada is now officially part of the HSPA+ club, and it’s now also selling a couple of new phones you might be interested in. Naturally, the network will give you coverage in line with the Bell network that Virgin is piggybacking on (encompassing 93% of Canadians), and you can expect the same download speeds of up to 21.6 megabits per second and upload speeds up to 5.76 — in “ideal conditions,” of course. As expected, the carrier is now also offering a number of new phones that take advantage of the network, not the least of which include the iPhone 3G and 3GS (in all the usual varieties), and the BlackBerry Bold 9700. Hit up the link below to check out the complete lineup, and Virgin’s new smartphone plan offerings, which start at $50 per month

Nexus One experiencing nationwide data outage?
January 29, 2010 – 9:59 am | No Comment

We’ve been inundated with tips from perturbed Nexus One users across the country (and even in Puerto Rico) suggesting that their T-Mobile data coverage is completely out of commission.  Some users have reported that their SIM card pulls down data when swapped out of the Nexus One and into another handset, and both T-Mobile and HTC tech support centers have purportedly been slammed. At the moment, no one really seems to know what the issue is, but we have seen some reports from owners that their data is coming down just fine.

A Healthy Truth About Mushrooms
December 11, 2009 – 8:10 pm | No Comment

mushroomMost people think of mushrooms as just a flavor boost with no real health benefits, when really mushrooms can be quite helpful in your nutritional battle. Mushrooms are a high source of fiber, potassium, and can also help to fight of certain types of cancer.

The potassium found in mushrooms will help to rebuild muscles and lower blood pressure. With a delicious taste mushrooms can be a nice touch to a meal and also help with some needed recovery after a tough work out.

Mushrooms are a good source of fiber which can help to keep a healthy digestive tract and help to cleanse the body while keeping you regular.

One of the main reasons mushrooms were looked as unhealthy is from the way they’re cooked, most people sauté them in butter and throw on all sorts of spices and herbs making them a calorie pact side to a meal. Mushrooms only need a little butter and they will cook great in they’re own flavorful juices. Mushrooms also go great in salads and all the prep time is slicing and throwing them in; So next time you need a little extra in a meal and don’t want to lose flavor try out some mushrooms, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Mushrooms are also known to boost the immune system, fight of viruses and other harmful fungi, lower allergy levels, reduce inflammations, balance blood sugar levels, fight and break down blood clots. There are many types of mushrooms, some healthier then others; here is a list of some of the top mushrooms

  • Maitake Mushroom- this king of mushrooms is a little harder to find but is the healthiest of the bunch, it is known to lower blood pressure, blood sugar and is even found to be useful in fighting HIV. The maitake is close to the same flavor of the white button mushroom and can be substituted for any dish that they are in.
  • Shitake Mushroom- These mushrooms are best known for fighting off flu viruses. With a smokey flavor they goes best with, soups, eggs or in a sauce.
  • Crimini Mushroom- helps boost the immune system and fight cancers. These mushrooms are more flavorful then the button mushroom and can also be used in any of the same recipes.
  • Portobello Mushrooms- Very high in potassium, one portobello mushroom actually has more potassium then a banana. These mushrooms are great for any veggie dish as a substitute for the meat.
  • Button Mushrooms- Are one of the highest sources of antioxidants of any food.

Prepared right any one of these types of mushrooms can be a super addition to almost any meal, they have a very low calorie count and can be a great friend in the fight for weight control.

What Are The Healthiest Vegetables
October 8, 2009 – 9:41 pm | No Comment

veggies

There really isn’t any bad vegetables, but some are better than others. If your looking to lose weight stay away from some of the more starchy veggies like potatoes. However potatoes are a great vegetable if you are trying to build muscle and are active at the gym. Just like Bananas, Potatoes are also extremely high in potassium which helps with the rebuilding stage of torn muscles. Other veggies that should be in your regular diet include:

Tomatoes- This vegetable is truly amazing; from its anti- oxidants that help prevent cancers, to the enzymes that help break down foods for digestion, the tomato is truly a delicious helper (Not to mention thats its jam packed with almost all then main nutrients and vitamins).

Broccoli- Is a great source of fiber, iron, vitamins and diseases fighting anti oxidants. Broccoli is best served when its steamed for about 7 minutes and if your really not a fan of the taste then try it with a bit of cheese sprinkled over it.

Spinach-  Pop-eye that crazy sailer was on to something pounding back all that spinach, the most vitamin rich vegetable of them all. Spinach can also help prevent diseases like arthritis, osteoporoses, heart disease and many forms of cancers. To get all the vitamins out of spinach your best bet is to steam it for 1-2 minutes from when the water is boiling.

Between these 3 vegetables you’ll cover almost all your necessary vitamins and minerals throughout the day, but be sure to eat a balanced diet and don’t skip out on your veggies.

Staying Fit All Year Long
August 29, 2009 – 7:27 pm | No Comment

staying-fitImage credit

It can feel like a full time job just trying to stay in shape and eat healthy all year round, but that’s the cold hard truth of the matter. It takes persistence, strength and dedication to be in great shape 365 days a year and for many people around the world that is way to hard to deal with. So to make things easier I will share 3 crucial things that can help keep you going and staying fit all year long.

Goal setting

This is what usually gets people excited to get to the gym in the first place, you might be watching TV and see someone who lost a lot of weight, or maybe see a race you want to be in someday so you decide that will be your new goal. Then 3 weeks later you lose sight of what your trying to do and quit. When setting goals you need to do 5 things

  1. Think short term and expand in small steps - if your goal is to clean up your diet then maybe your 1st goal will be to limit fast food, then move to something like having a salad for dinner once per week and continue with small steps and after a while you will notice they are all working for you and your main goal losing weight is happening right before your eyes.
  2. Write down your goals – use a calender or hang something from your fridge so that you see it on a regular basis and don`t forget about what your trying to achieve in the long run.
  3. Give yourself a break – Your not a superhero and your goals aren`t going to happen overnight, so don`t exhaust yourself  24\7 trying to get your goals finished and over with. Take time for yourself to heal and have fun in the process (just remember that you are training for something and that is what you will accomplish).
  4. Believe in yourself – So many people have doubt, especially if someone says something to you about your dreams or goals in life. It is so important to really believe in what your doing, even if your trying to lose 5 pounds of fat, or jump 3 inches higher or trying to make the 2012 Olympics. No matter what people may think or say, you need to believe in what you know you can do and will do.
  5. Get it done – It`s one thing to talk a big game, but another to see it through. When you set a goal for yourself make sure you finish it! trust me when I tell you that not reaching your goals is one of the most regrettable things you can do in your lifetime. If you need help to get it done then ask someone, if you need more time, then take more time; Just make sure you come through on top and when you do it`s time to sit down and come up with whats next for you.
